Just a Spoonful of Whimsy

February 3rd, 2015 by Karen Pan | Comment

With so many couples getting ready to say “I Do” this upcoming wedding season, we thought we’d visit a topic often overlooked: adding whimsy to your wedding style. Whimsy simply means fun. A small dose of playfulness to your wedding will bring smiles to your guests and leave that ever-lasting impression. It can be a fun poem read during the ceremony, a surprise dance at the reception or a taco truck for a late night snack. These whimsical details should be something that makes you smile as a couple and capture who you are. Do you share a special pet? Do you love board games? Are you foodies? In fact, food offers easy and great ways where you can add some whimsy to your wedding. Here are some fun ideas:

Expanding the Color Palette

September 4th, 2014 by Karen Pan | Comment

When I meet a couple for the first time, they usually have specific colors in mind already for their wedding day. However, I’ve noticed that many couples are trapped thinking that they can only have two colors for their wedding day. They don’t realize that when you expand the wedding palette having three, four or even five color combinations it actually brings more elegance, uniformity and awe to their wedding. When choosing the right color palette, it helps to start with a picture that captures you. Think about the different tones and what emotions the colors evoke. Identify one or two leading colors and from there you can expand the palette. Bright shades should be used more sparingly for greater impact while neutrals like cream, taupe and can add depth. Remember to take into account the colors at your venue and to select a palette that compliments the space. If you are unsure of your color combination, The Perfect Palette is a great resource where you can find palettes and mood boards for any color. Your wedding planner can also provide you great feedback and ideas. So have fun and see what color can do!

I’m obsessed with marbleized wedding details right now! It’s such a cool trend that is perfect for a fresh spring or summer wedding. Marbleized wedding decor goes well on just about everything from stationary, linens and even vessels. It’s perfect for that artsy, whimsical and lighthearted couple and great DIY projects that you could work on together. Check out the great tutorial at Green Wedding Shoes on how to create your own marbled paper .

Winter Wedding Fashion

December 5th, 2013 by Karen Pan | Comment

With the temperature quickly dropping here in the Bay Area, I thought of all you winter brides who get to take advantage of all the fun fashion options. We might not get snow here but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a beautiful Winter Princess. Try adding crystals, lace or feathers to your accessories. Bundle up with a nice fur shawl or even strap on some warm boots. Even the smallest detail will be as if you stepped straight out of the Nutcracker.
