5 Tips for Great Wedding Photos

I recently had the pleasure of meeting the amazing photography team Kim + Phil Photography. They are the most adorable couple themselves and I’m just giddy over all their beautiful photos. I just love how their pictures “glow” and capture the joy of the wedding day so perfectly. I’ve asked them to help us with some tips on for great photographs on your wedding day. Check out all their wonderful advise.

1. Engagement Shoot
Engagement shoots are a great way to get comfortable with your photographer and the camera. Having worked with your photographer already, you’ll be firing on all cylinders when your wedding rolls around, and you won’t waste time getting acquainted.

2. Professional Makeup and Hair
You’re gorgeous already! But even the most beautiful person can benefit from professional makeup and hair. It will enhance your photos and let your photographer shoot from any angle, freeing them from worrying about retouching. Remember, Photoshop can only do so much.

3. Detail Shots
You spend months planning all the little details: the right linen color, the perfect table numbers, the most beautiful flowers. Make sure to set aside time in your timeline before guests arrive to allow your photographer to capture these important and untouched details.

3. Wedding Planner or Coordinator
A planner is one of the best wedding investments you can make. Too often, sans coordinator, your photographer plays schedule-keeper, and that distracts their focus from you and your wedding. A planner removes those distractions from your vendors, letting them work smoothly and letting you enjoy your wedding, stress-free.

5. Relax
You hired a professional photographer for a reason. Our job is making you look even more amazing than you already are and capturing those small moments you didn’t have time to notice. Trust us. We know how to pose you and find the right light to make magic. We love what we do and love creating heirlooms. So sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself!

Infographic Wedding Stationary

One our brides this year introduced me to the wonderful world of infographics! If you are not familiar with infographics, they are graphic visual representations of information or data. And they are perfect for any wedding stationary like invitations, maps and even seating charts. You can tell the story of how you met using a timeline or flow chart. Or how about a decorative venn diagram to show the common (and uncommon) interests you have with one another. Here are some of our favorite wedding infographics that you will also swoon over.

Easter Wedding Inspiration

Spring is in the air! Flowers are in bloom, birds are chirping and the days are getting longer. And with Easter just around the corner we thought what better way to mark the season than a spring inspired wedding celebration. Lush flowers, soft palettes, and outdoor ceremonies are the perfect way to celebrate this gorgeous holiday!

Seema and DJ: Los Altos History Museum

Seema and DJ were such a fun couple to work with. They had their traditional Indian wedding celebration on Saturday and asked us to help them with their American-style wedding reception on Sunday at the Los Altos History Museum. The bride who is from Georgia wanted to incorporate rustic charm of the South like sweet breads, coke bottles and floating gardenias along with their Indian culture. Guest feasted on a buffet of Indian favorites and mouth-watering dessert display. Ever detail reflected the couple, and they even incorporated their love for cricket using the red balls as table numbers. It was beautiful evening full of bright colors, bold tastes and unforgettable memories. Congratulations Seema and DJ!

I “Heart” Long Tables

Over the years my love for long, rectangular banquet tables have grown more and more. Not only do long tables allow for more intimacy among guests, but they also add some edge to your wedding reception decor. On their own, they give a dramatic effect and sense of royalty to the event design but when mixed with rounds or square tables they create a unique visual effect. The lengthy surface allows for many decor options like flower arrangements of varying heights and table runners for additional color and texture. Whether your theme is vintage, modern or classic, the result is always stunning, elegant and practical.

Alright, all you love birds, here’s a fun Valentine’s Day shoot to inspire your own great day. Now Valentine’s Day can be celebrated with your special someone or a group of your closest girlfriends. We teamed up with the talented Erica B Photography and set the scene for a perfect girls-only gathering. Inspired by the beautiful runner, we pulled in shades of yellow, orange and forest green to compliment the more popular V-Day colors of ruby red and light pink. Add some simple refreshments and hors d’oeuvres… and Voilà, you have the perfect setting for a festive get together! Hope you make this Valentine’s a special one with your loved ones.

Wedding in Paradise

We recently had the pleasure of coordinating a private wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. The wedding took place at the luxurious Halekulani Hotel with the clear, blue ocean and Diamond Head as the backdrop. The bride chose a stunning palette of Tiffany blue, orchid green and brown which worked perfectly for the setting. The wedding had all the island flare with a traditional Hawaiian ceremony, Tahitian dancers and tropical fusion menu. We were in paradise and just can’t wait to return again for our next destination wedding!

Engagement Party 101: Savoring the Moment

He just popped the question over the holidays and you said “Yes!” But before you go straight into wedding planning why not savor this moment and have an engagement party. An engagement party is a great time to celebrate and introduce key people from your lives. More couples are hosting their own parties these days. The party itself does not have to be over-the-top and should not upstage the wedding. And don’t worry if you haven’t settled on a color palette or don’t have a wedding date in mind yet. Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday break and celebration into the new year! It has been a great time of reflection on 2012 and excitement for 2013. We are thrilled for all our couples who will be getting married this year and the fabulous projects in our back pockets. So stay tuned…we are in for a great year!
