With all the buzz of the Emmy Awards this past weekend, I couldn’t get Marchesa out of my mind. Over and over again Marchesa dresses never fail to make mouths drop in awe! Every dress is a breathtaking masterpiece with exquisite details and rolling sculptural drapes, tulle and flowers. Here is some eye candy from their 2011 bridal collection.

I’ve been so excited to share Alice and Hans’ wedding from earlier this year. This couple wanted a chic, modern wedding and chose the Bentley Reserve in the heart of the financial district as their perfect setting. The banking hall with its dramatic chandeliers was ideal for their ceremony and later transformed into their lavish reception space. Every detail from the invitations to the fabric-like cake reflected their elegant and sophisticated style. And Alice the bride was beyond stunning in her wedding gown and later in traditional Chi Pao gown. The city cheers “congratulations” to you both!
Boutonnières are common in weddings today but where did they come from? Well the term boutonnière is actually French for “buttonhole flower” when men use to place a single flower in the buttonhole of their suit jacket to ward off evil sprits. However, the tradition goes back to medieval time when a knight wore his lady’s colors (through flowers) as a statement of his love. These days, most boutonnieres are pinned directly to the man’s left lapel on special occasions. And boutonniere designs are not just limited to flowers but include many creative materials. Remember those animated flip books we played with as kids? Well, flip books are making a great comeback! Using a short 10-30 second video clip, you can turn a special memory into a palm-size story with pages that re-create the event. The possibilities are endless! Use your flip book as a save the date or how about a sweet post-wedding gift capturing your first dance. Even better, set up a flip book station at your wedding and invite guests to step behind a camera and make their own custom favors. Everyone will have a blast creating their own skits and fun!
